A warm cocktail for this festive season

December is the perfect time for warm cocktails. Instead of the usual hot toddies or mulled wine or cider, boozy hot chocolate is another festive drink to serve. This hot chocolate is extra rich and can also be used as a dip for churros or doughnuts.

- 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate I like Sharffen Berger
- 1.5 cups whole milk
- 2 sticks cinnamon
- 1.5 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 ounce bourbon I like Four Roses Small Batch
-
Chop the chocolate as finely as possible.
-
Simmer milk and cinnamon sticks on low-medium heat for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally. Don't let the milk boil.
-
Add in the chocolate, sugar, and pinch of salt. Stir continuously until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
-
Pour mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a container with a spout (in order to make pouring easy).
-
Stir in bourbon.
-
Serve with lots of whipped cream, marshmallows or both!
What’s your favorite winter cocktail?
Great cocktail.
We only had weather under 70 degrees for about a minute this winter in Savannah. Boozy Hot Chocolate sounds like a decadent treat to serve guests the next time we have a cold spell!
